Documenting the Nameplate is an ongoing research project and repository—created in New York City in 2016 by between longtime collaborators, coauthors, and friends Marcel Rosa-Salas and Isabel Attyah Flower—and dedicated to collecting and sharing images and stories from nameplate lovers, wearers, and makers around the world.

OUR BOOK
In 2023, the release of our the our book, THE NAMEPLATE: JEWELRY, CULTURE, AND IDENTITY (Penguin Random House) culminated years of research into the multifaceted history and often-overlooked significance of nameplate jewelry. Featuring personal testimonies gathered through live events and open calls, essays and interviews from scholars and cultural figures, portraits by contemporary photographers, and archival imagery, The Nameplate explores the ways these cherished objects tell stories about identity, community, and the memories and legacies we seek to preserve.
